AIMS

Ultrasound is a powerful and often under-utilized tool in equine primary and emergency care in the ambulatory setting. Practitioners can gain valuable information by scanning the equine abdomen.

OBJECTIVES

The fundamentals of ultrasonography
How to acquire a good quality image to assess the equine abdomen
Review of abdominal anatomy of adult horses and normal images
Review of the most commonly found abnormalities during abdominal ultrasound examination
How abdominal ultrasonography can help decision making during a colic work-up
The theory session is then followed with a practical session to help participants get accustomed to image acquisition, optimization and practice scanning
