AIMS

Ultrasound is a powerful and often under-utilized tool in equine primary and emergency care in the ambulatory setting. Practitioners can gain valuable information by scanning the equine abdomen.

OBJECTIVES
  • The fundamentals of ultrasonography
  • How to acquire a good quality image to assess the equine abdomen
  • Review of abdominal anatomy of adult horses and normal images
  • Review of the most commonly found abnormalities during abdominal ultrasound examination
  • How abdominal ultrasonography can help decision making during a colic work-up
  • The theory session is then followed with a practical session to help participants get accustomed to image acquisition, optimization and practice scanning
