AIMS

This practical, hands-on, wet-lab and practical workshop is designed to provide equine veterinarians with the theoretical and especially the practical skills to perform endoscopy and routine diagnostic and some therapeutic endoscopic procedures of the equine respiratory tract that are currently used in practice. Invaluable tips and tricks will be shared by the speaker, who is an international expert and specialist. This wet-lab course offers unrivalled one-to-one mentoring. The quality and preparation of the clinical material and low delegate ratio will make this an unsurpassed learning experience. This over ground endoscopy course will utilize live horses and cover nasal, upper respiratory tract, lower respiratory tract, and guttural pouches video/flexible-endoscopy, as well as diagnostic procedures including tracheal wash, broncho-alveolar lavage, guttural pouch wash and indwelling catheter placement, etc.).

OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course, the participant is expected to:
  • Know how endoscope works
  • Be familiar with endoscopic equipment and instruments
  • Be able to perform endoscopy of the respiratory tract in horses
  • Recognize normal and abnormal endoscopic findings of the respiratory tract (i.e endoscopic findings of normal horses and horses affected with different respiratory tract diseases)
  • Be able to use the endoscope to diagnose different upper respiratory tract diseases
  • Be able to perform tracheal wash, broncho-alveolar lavage, guttural pouch wash and indwelling catheter placement
  • To use endoscopy for treatment in certain condition.
