Prof. Jezie Acorda

Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) and Past President of the Philippine Association of Veterinary Medicine Educators and Schools (PAVMES)

Dr. Jezie Acorda is a Professor at the University of the Philippines, specializing in Diagnostic Ultrasound, Veterinary Medicine, and Acupuncture. With a deep commitment to advancing veterinary practice, his work spans a wide range of areas, including low-level laser therapy, wound healing evaluations, and the study of fatty infiltration in animals.

Dr. Acorda's primary research focuses on livestock, particularly dairy cattle, Philippine native goats, sheep, and water buffaloes. He has contributed significantly to the understanding of these species’ health and well being, with particular emphasis on diagnostic imaging and therapeutic interventions to improve their care and productivity.

As an expert in diagnostic ultrasound, Dr. Acorda has played a key role in developing techniques for more accurate and efficient veterinary assessments. His work in acupuncture complements his diagnostic skills, offering holistic treatment options for a variety of conditions in animals. Additionally, his research into low-level laser therapy has opened new avenues for pain management and tissue healing in veterinary patients.

Dr. Acorda’s contributions to veterinary medicine extend beyond his research. He is actively involved in educating the next generation of veterinarians, teaching at the University of the Philippines and sharing his expertise through lectures, workshops, and publications. His dedication to the profession and his focus on livestock health have made him a respected figure in veterinary academia and practice.

Dr. Acorda has held various leadership roles at UPLB, including serving as Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine from 2019 to 2022. in addition, Dr. Acorda served as Past President of the Philippine Association of Veterinary Medicine Educators and Schools (PAVMES). 

In recognition of his contributions to veterinary science, Dr. Acorda was named Outstanding Young Scientist by the National Academy of Science and Technology in 1996. He was also honored as UPLB's Outstanding Teacher in 2009 and received the Most Outstanding Veterinarian in Academe award from the Veterinary Practitioners Association of the Philippines in 2010.
