Dr. Yvonne R.A. van Zeeland is an Associate Professor in the Division of Zoological Medicine at Utrecht University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in the Netherlands. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree with merit from Utrecht University in 2004, followed by a rotating internship in Companion Animal Medicine and a residency in Avian Medicine.

Dr. van Zeeland became a Diplomate of the European College of Zoological Medicine (ECZM) in Avian Medicine in 2013 and later achieved de facto recognition in Small Mammal Medicine, highlighting her expertise in both fields. She earned her PhD the same year with a dissertation on "The Feather Damaging Grey Parrot: An Analysis of Its Behaviour and Needs," focusing on behavioral issues in parrots. Additionally, she is a certified parrot behavior consultant through Tinley and the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).

Her clinical and research interests span avian and small mammal medicine, with a particular focus on behavioral disorders. She has authored numerous publications and book chapters and actively contributes to teaching, research, and clinical practice.

In recognition of her contributions, Dr. van Zeeland received the T.J. Lafeber Avian Practitioner of the Year Award in 2021. She has also held key leadership roles, including President of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (AAV) (2018–2019) and Avian Scientific Chair for the European Association of Avian Veterinarians (EAAV) for the ICARE conference. Since 2019, she has served as Examination Committee Chair for the ECZM and Associate Editor for the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery.
