Professor Dr. Katrin Hartmann is a distinguished veterinarian specializing in small animal internal medicine, with a particular focus on feline infectious diseases. She graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, Germany, in 1987. She earned her Dr. med. vet. in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 1990 and completed her habilitation (German PhD) in the same field in 1995. In 1999, she became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine – Companion Animals (ECVIM-CA).
From 2001 to 2003, Prof. Hartmann served as an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Georgia, Athens, USA. She then returned to LMU Munich, where she currently holds the position of Full Professor and Chair of the Clinic of Small Animal Medicine. In 2009, she was appointed the first Department Head of the newly founded Centre for Clinical Veterinary Medicine at LMU Munich and has since alternated roles as Department Head and Vice Department Head.
Prof. Hartmann's research primarily focuses on small animal clinical infectiology, emphasizing feline viral infections such as feline infectious peritonitis and feline retrovirus infections, antiviral chemotherapy, leptospirosis, as well as vaccination and herd immunity. She has authored over 400 publications in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to numerous book chapters.
Throughout her career, Prof. Hartmann has been recognized for her contributions to veterinary medicine and continues to be an active member of the European Advisory Board on Cat Diseases (ABCD).
