Cytological and biochemical analysis of canine and feline effusions

Course Description

Both thoracic and abdominal cavities are lined by serous membranes, the pleura or peritoneum. Effusions can occur due to factors like filtration or inflammation. They are classified as transudate, modified transudate, exudate, or septic exudate. Chylothorax and hemoperitoneum are special forms of effusion. Reasons for effusion in the thoracic or abdominal cavity can be increased filtration, for example in systemic hypertension,or increased filtration due to reduced colloid osmotic pressure in the serous blood vessels, for example due to hypoproteinemia.

Deepen your knowledge about these effusions in aims of diagnosis and treatment!
